Alabama Chanin is dedicated to keeping design and production local to founder Natalie Chanin’s hometown of Florence, Alabama, and has been since its inception in 2006. Through Alabama Chanin’s focus on using sustainable, organic, and local materials and labor, we have committed ourselves to producing quality products made in the USA.
Alabama Chanin is housed in Florence’s Industrial Park, in a factory building that was once home to textile producer Tee Jays Manufacturing Company. Under Tee Jays’ management, this facility was called Plant 14. We have honored that history by naming our machine-made design and manufacturing division Building 14. It is a callback to the rich history of our region within the history of American textile manufacturing. Building 14 Design + Manufacturing Services was created to facilitate production for other companies who wish to produce responsibly, using organic cotton. Alabama Chanin’s machine-manufactured line is made within Building 14. The facility also has the resources to source materials and physically produce goods for other companies that otherwise would not have the ability to produce using organic materials.
We offer simple, intermediate, and complex packages depending on the complexity of construction. The “Sample Production Package” is an option we offer for clients and recommend for those who plan on producing with Building 14 consistently.

Our manufacturing services include hand embroidery and embellishment through our skilled, local Alabama Chanin artisans. Natalie has spent over a decade working with hand sewers and seamstresses in and around Florence, Alabama, to develop this unique program. Artisans use traditional hand-sewing methods that have been refined and modernized to create contemporary pieces.
Sample embroideries can be developed at a cost per hour and production prices are negotiated based on a project-by-project basis.
